Nolan Shaheed, So Cal Track Club’s all-everything distance star, Thursday was named co-winner of the co-Male Masters Athlete of the Year award at the USA Track & Field annual meeting in Virginia Beach, Va.

Nolan, similarly honored in 2007 and 2008, shared this year’s honors with M90 hurdler Ralph Maxwell, who, like Nolan, is a multiple world-record holder.

In his first full year as an M60 competitor, Nolan set at least five American records, including a 4:57.06 indoor mile and a 4:31.93 outdoor 1500.

Three other So Cal teammates won age-group honors: Lisa Valle (W40-44), Sumi Onodera-Leonard (W80-84) and Leland McPhie (M95-99).

Congratulations to all our distinguished teammates.

Welcome to our new blog

Hi, everybody.

After more than 12 years of trying to crank out monthly or semimonthly newsletters, Mark Cleary and I, Mike Tipping, think a blog would be a better platform for keeping our nearly 150 members up to date on club business, competition results and other news from the worlds of Masters track and field and cross country.

For instance, we can post news any time it’s warranted, not just via a monthly newsletter. Hopefully, you all will get in the habit of checking this blog regularly, but we also expect to send out e-mails alerting you of something new on the blog.

This blog also can link to photo galleries, track meet websites, other relevant blogs and pretty much anything online that might pique your interest.

Further, you all can be active participants, rather than passive readers, by using the comments function to talk among ourselves. For starters, tell us what you think of this layout and design. You like the red? We have other options available. Let us know.

So, here we go.
